Eight years of silence – and then this: Dimmu Borgir have announced their new album "Grand Serpent Rising". Dropping May 22 via Nuclear Blast Records with a massive 13 tracks. As a first taste, the Norwegian-language single "Ulvgjeld & Blodsodel" explores themes of heritage and generational legacy.
The album was recorded in Gothenburg with producer Fredrik Nordström – the man behind Dimmu Borgir classics Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia (2001) and Death Cult Armageddon (2003). "I think we've musically surpassed ourselves on this album," says frontman Shagrath. Guitarist Silenoz explains the album title: the serpent doesn't symbolize evil, but renewal, growth, knowledge, and liberation.
For NRW fans, autumn gets especially exciting: in October, Dimmu Borgir team up with Behemoth, In League With Satan, and Dark Funeral for a co-headline tour – with a stop in Cologne on October 20. Two of black metal's biggest names on one stage – a night for the history books.
