Vader, Godspeed You! Black Emperor & Feuerschwanz: This Weekend the Ruhr Erupts

Tap for a preview!

This weekend NRW erupts on all frequencies. From death metal to post-rock to medieval metal spectacle — here are the highlights from Thursday to Sunday.

Friday: Night of Giants

The most monumental evening belongs to Godspeed You! Black Emperor at Die Kantine Cologne. The Canadian post-rock legends transform every room into a cathedral of noise and emotion — if you haven't seen them live, now's the time.

Simultaneously, Feuerschwanz fill Turbinenhalle Oberhausen with medieval metal — bagpipes, headbanging, sold-out show. Next door at Kulttempel, Brainstorm and Angus McSix deliver power metal excellence.

At Essigfabrik Cologne, Die Happy rock out, while Mental Cruelty and Kanonenfieber deliver the most brutal evening at Carlswerk Victoria.

Saturday: Bochum Becomes the Death Metal Capital

The absolute highlight: Vader, Kataklysm, and Blood Red Throne at Zeche Bochum — three death metal heavyweights on one stage. If you're still standing afterwards, you win.

Also Saturday, God Is An Astronaut transform Matrix Bochum into a wall of post-rock. At Turbinenhalle, The O'Reillys and the Paddyhats and Harpyie throw an Irish punk and medieval party. And at Trompete Bochum, Berthold City bring L.A. hardcore.

Local Heroes & Hidden Gems

Ruhr area legends in action: Grobschnitt play krautrock legends at Zeche Carl Essen, while Heldmaschine unleash industrial metal Friday at Live Club Barmen Wuppertal.

Hidden gem: Bloodsucking Zombies From Outer Space Friday at Don't Panic Essen — horror punk from Vienna in the most intimate punk club in the Ruhr.
