The Freilichtbühne Loreley is a 15,000-capacity amphitheatre perched atop the legendary Lorelei rock high above the Rhine, built between 1934 and 1939. Since 1976 it has served primarily as a rock concert venue, hosting WDR's Rockpalast broadcasts and performances by Metallica, the Ramones, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Since 2006, it is also home to the annual Night of the Prog festival.
