Over 100 Shows: From Arena Rock to Punk Legends in the Ruhr
What a week! Over 100 shows are coming up – from the sold-out Turbinenhalle to sweaty basement clubs. Alter Bridge and Sevendust fill the arena, the Buzzcocks bring 50 years of punk history to the Zeche, KMFDM stomp through the Essigfabrik – plus underground gems and local heroes galore. Here are the highlights!
The Big Bangers
The double bill of the year lands on Tuesday at Turbinenhalle Oberhausen: Alter Bridge and Sevendust share the stage for an evening of alternative rock and post-grunge at the highest level. Myles Kennedy on vocals, over a million monthly listeners – this is going to be huge.
Thursday belongs to the legends: Buzzcocks play Zeche Bochum! "Ever Fallen in Love" live at the Zeche – after over 45 years of punk history, still an absolute force. That same evening, KMFDM stomp through Essigfabrik Köln – over 40 years of industrial, EBM, and noise. Sascha Konietzko and crew living up to their name.
Friday gets loud at Palladium Köln: Airbourne deliver Australian hard rock with zero compromise – beer showers guaranteed. Meanwhile, Make Them Suffer blast through Mitsubishi Electric Halle Düsseldorf.
Underground Gems and Local Heroes
Monday kicks off with pagan metal at Helvete Oberhausen: Skyforger and Wolfchant – Latvian folk metal meets German pagan metal in the rawest club in the region. The Helvete is exactly as honest and gritty as metal should be.
Local heroes are out in force this week: Nachtblut bring dark metal to Sputnikhalle Münster on Wednesday with Asenblut – an absolute force live. On Saturday, Motorjesus deliver dirty rock'n'roll metal at Rare Guitar Münster – the quintessential local hero! And Night In Gales play two consecutive nights at Die Mühle Duisburg – melodic death metal from the heart of the Ruhr.
Saturday insider tip: Fool The Masses at Das Parkhaus Duisburg-Meiderich – industrial metalcore from a local hero in an intimate setting. Pure DIY charm.
From Mathcore to Darkwave – The Full Spectrum
Tuesday also gets wild at MTC Köln: The Callous Daoboys bring chaotic mathcore with Knives in support. Technically demanding madness on a small stage.
Wednesday craving some cowpunk? Supersuckers rock Hirsch Q Dortmund – the self-proclaimed "Greatest Rock'n'Roll Band in the World" at this Dortmund cult venue. Friday gets raw in Essen: The Chisel throw down British oi-punk at Don't Panic – working-class attitude in a venue made for exactly this.
Saturday, Bullet blast Swedish heavy metal through Lukaz Lünen, while Sunday brings the highlight package at Die Kantine Köln: Kim Dracula, Violent Vira and VOWWS – industrial, gothic, and dark rock all in one night. For the melancholic-dark crowd: Hinfort play as local heroes also on Sunday at Kulttempel Oberhausen with finest darkwave and post-punk.
