ahead to the sea

Ahead to the Sea are a folk-punk band from Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, founded in 2004 by songwriter Jochen Kröner (previously of Across the Border). Their sound blends Irish folk, punk rock, ska and dub, featuring flute, violin and accordion alongside a standard band lineup and dual vocals. Their lyrics carry left-wing, particularly anti-fascist and anti-militarist, themes. After splitting up in 2010, the band reunited in its original lineup in 2023 and has since performed again, including regularly at Café Atlantik in Freiburg.
