Beirut

Beirut is the band around singer and multi-instrumentalist Zach Condon from Santa Fe, New Mexico. He left school at sixteen and travelled through Europe, where Balkan brass music and Roma folk traditions took hold — audible on the debut "Gulag Orkestar", recorded largely in Albuquerque and finished in Brooklyn. Line-ups of up to eleven players followed on "The Flying Club Cup", "The Rip Tide", "No No No" and "Gallipoli". Condon recorded "Hadsel" alone in the northern Norwegian village of the same name, and "A Study of Losses" was commissioned by the Swedish acrobatic circus Giraff.
