Butterwegge emerged from the solo project of Carsten Butterwegge, hailing from Duisburg in Germany's Ruhrgebiet, blending raw punk rock with reggae and ska influences, alongside his self-coined 'Alko-Pop' style that tackles everyday life, politics, and social issues through sharp, deutschsprachige lyrics. The band, now featuring three women and three men of diverse ages, delivers high-energy performances at major festivals like Open Flair, Ruhrpott Rodeo, and Punk im Pott, and has shared stages on tours with Betontod and supports for acts like New Model Army. Regional fame came via the anthem 'Deine Wellen' played at MSV Duisburg games, while nationally, they've released albums including 'Butterbande' and rocked clubs across the nation with unfiltered punk attitude.
