Death Angel
Essigfabrik, Köln
Death Angel is a pioneering thrash metal band from San Francisco, California, formed in 1982 by Filipino-American cousins including guitarist Rob Cavestany, bassist Dennis Pepa, and drummer Andy Galeon, who was just 14 years old when the band released their acclaimed 1987 debut album The Ultra-Violence. The band quickly gained recognition in the Bay Area thrash scene with their youthful energy and technical prowess, signing to major label Geffen Records and releasing subsequent albums including Frolic Through the Park (1988) and Act III (1989). After a devastating tour bus crash in Arizona in 1990 that critically injured drummer Andy Galeon and led to the departure of vocalist Mark Osegueda, the remaining members continued as The Organization before Death Angel reunited in 2001 for a benefit concert and have since remained active, releasing multiple albums including the Grammy-nominated Humanicide (2019) and maintaining their status as one of the most influential bands from the thriving Bay Area thrash metal scene.
