Die Bolschewistische Kurkapelle Schwarz-Rot
Frannz Club, Berlin
Die Bolschewistische Kurkapelle Schwarz-Rot was founded in East Berlin in 1986 as the successor to the song-theatre group Karls Enkel, aiming to make workers' songs heard again and free them from mere folklore and state propaganda. The brass-dominated ensemble blends traditional brass and folk music with rock and punk, playing compositions by Hanns Eisler and songs by Ton Steine Scherben among others. Almost twenty musicians from various professions make up the collective, which plays festivals, clubs, theatres, the street, weddings and funerals, and has toured Germany, France, Switzerland, Denmark, Austria, the Netherlands and the USA. The ensemble split in 2010; one section continues under the founding name, the other has performed since 2012 as "Sogenannte Anarchistische Musikwirtschaft".
