PROTEX

Protex formed in Belfast in 1978, inspired by The Clash's cancelled 1977 show in the city, initially under the name Protex Blue. Their debut single "Don't Ring Me Up" came out in late 1978 on Terri Hooley's Good Vibrations label and is regarded as a classic of Northern Irish punk; Polydor singles followed before the band split in 1981. Protex returned around Aidan Murtagh in 2010, released the shelved Polydor recordings as "Strange Obsessions" and have since put out the albums "Tightrope" (2017) and "Wicked Ways" (2022).
