Tarja Turunen is a Finnish singer, born in Kitee, Finland, who founded the symphonic metal band Nightwish in 1996. After leaving Nightwish in 2005, she launched a solo career in 2006, performing under the name Tarja. A classically trained vocalist, she combines operatic singing with heavy metal instrumentation.
