The Mahones

The Mahones are a Canadian Celtic punk band formed on St. Patrick's Day in 1990 in Kingston, Ontario, by Dublin-born Finny McConnell and Barry Williams as a one-off party band that evolved into a global touring phenomenon. Widely recognized as pioneers of the Irish punk genre, they blend punk rock's raw energy with traditional Irish instruments including accordion, tin whistle, mandolin, and fiddle, creating a distinctive sound that has influenced the Celtic punk scene alongside peers like Dropkick Murphys and The Pogues. Over their 35-year career, The Mahones have released multiple studio albums, toured extensively across the world, and shared stages with legendary acts including Shane MacGowan, Stiff Little Fingers, Billy Bragg, and The Buzzcocks, establishing themselves as one of the hardest-working and most internationally recognized bands in the Celtic punk genre.
