The Snooks

The Snooks are a band from the East Westphalian area around Rheda-Wiedenbrück/Gütersloh, Germany, whose members – Michael van Merwyk (vocals, guitar), Ollie Niemeyer (vocals, guitar), Harry Fricke (double bass) and Tommy Bornemann (drums) – have known each other since school. The band performs unconventional cover versions of artists such as Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Steve Miller, Lee Dorsey, Johnny Cash, Kiss, Joy Division and Eurythmics, arranged for a classic band line-up in their self-described style of "Polka, Pop & Rock'n'Roll". Bandleader Michael van Merwyk is otherwise known primarily as a blues musician; The Snooks is his side project for regional shows.
