From Post-Metal Thunder to Punk Anniversaries: A Week That Brings It All
This week the Ruhr area lights up across every channel. From instrumental post-metal in Live Music Hall to a punk legend's 50th anniversary tour at Zakk – over 80 concerts are scheduled between Cologne, Düsseldorf, Essen, Wuppertal and the wider NRW scene. Here are the highlights.
The week's heavy hitters
Tuesday opens with a real force: Russian Circles bring their instrumental post-metal weight along with Pelican and support Fotocrime to Live Music Hall Köln. If you're into cinematic heaviness, don't miss this one.
Wednesday is a hardcore day: Pro-Pain hit Essen's Turock with their new album "Stone Cold Anger" – New York hardcore in its purest form, precise and uncompromising. The same night, Raven kick off their European tour at Kulturwerk Herford. The NWOBHM godfathers and thrash pioneers are back after years – no other show in Herford will likely be hotter.
Thursday brings German party-thrash to Solingen's Cobra: Tankard – one of the "Big Teutonic 4" and unstoppable since 1982 – are doing a club show. Fans of Kreator and Sodom: prepare for a sweaty night.
Underground gems and local heroes
Wednesday at Pitcher Düsseldorf turns dark and theatrical: The Other, a true NRW heavyweight and Düsseldorf horror-punk institution, returns to the home turf. A must-see for the local scene.
At Oberhausen's Helvete on Friday, Bleeding Ocean take the stage – a young local metalcore act that will rattle the intimate Helvete cellar. Exactly the kind of insider tip KRACH lives for.
Sunday brings two small but worthwhile weekend-closer shows: Goodbye Grief deliver uncompromising post-hardcore at Düsseldorf's Linkes Zentrum Hinterhof.
From punk anniversary to Siberian folk – genre diversity
Saturday is punk-rock history: THE UNDERTONES celebrate their 50-year anniversary at Zakk Düsseldorf. The Northern Irish "Teenage Kicks" outfit is a living legend – Glare opens. Also Saturday, Saltatio Mortis headline the Amphitheater Gelsenkirchen in Nordsternpark – open-air medieval rock and a perfect season opener for their "Burgentour 2026".
Saturday at Turock Essen goes double-black: Antrisch and Non Est Deus deliver a German black-metal double bill. For something less furious: Letters Sent Home kick off their first headline tour at Cologne's MTC with emotional alt-rock.
Thursday turns Pitcher to darkwave: The Arch from Belgium celebrate their 40th anniversary with post-punk and electro. Friday goes even darker – Nytt Land from Siberia bring ritual dark folk to Matrix Bochum, while at Ratinger Hof Unzucht share the bill with Vlad In Tears for German gothic rock.
Sunday Authority Zero fire one last skate-punk volley from Arizona at Pitcher to close the week.
