The week of last times
632 shows in 222 cities between Kiel and Vienna, 31 festivals, 60 dates in Switzerland and Austria – and right in the middle, two nights that will never happen again in this form. That is the concert week of 14 to 20 September.
The big ones this week
The first is in Weimar: the Party.San Herbstoffensive runs at the Uhrenwerk for the seventh – and final – time. Friday belongs to Deserted Fear, with Imha Tarikat, Stillbirth and the uncompromising Eindhoven black metal of Doodswens before them. On Saturday The Ruins Of Beverast turn out the lights, flanked by Kvaen, Malthusian and Cryptworm. If you have never seen the Herbstoffensive: now or never.
The second is in Berlin. Lacrimosa celebrate 35 years at the Admiralspalast on Friday – for the first time with orchestra and choir, and according to the band the only show of its kind in Europe. Seated, one-off, and tickets are scarce accordingly.
In between, Fear Factory take on half the country. The Cybernetic Domination Tour stops five times: Live Music Hall Cologne (Tue), Markthalle Hamburg (Wed), Huxleys Berlin (Thu), Kesselhaus Munich (Fri) and Substage Karlsruhe (Sun) – with Crystal Lake from Tokyo and Polish death metal veterans Hate in tow. One size up: Evanescence play Frankfurt on Saturday and the Westfalenhalle Dortmund on Sunday, with Poppy and Nova Twins. Beartooth bring the Pure Ecstasy Tour to the Rudolf-Weber-Arena Oberhausen on Friday – their only NRW date, support from Silverstein.
Underground gems
Friday at Café Glocksee in Hanover: Hellripper, the Scottish one-man speed black metal army, expanded to a full band live. Small, filthy, exactly right.
Bavaria delivers the sold-out weekend: Metal im Woid at the SSV-Heim in Schrobenhausen runs twelve straight hours on Saturday, from grindcore butchers Jig-Ai and alpine folk crew Kanseil to Grand Magus at 21:15; on Friday the Athenians Triumpher close it out.
Free and outdoors in Lingen: Rock am Pferdemarkt puts a full stage in the middle of town for two days, with Betontod, Kafvka and Marathonmann. And in Düsseldorf, AK47 hosts Death over Düsseldorf on Saturday – with Warrant, the city's speed metal originals, formed in 1983.
From hardcore to darkwave
Muff Potter play the Ratinger Hof on Friday and Reeperbahn Festival at the Knust on Saturday. Drug Church drag Albany hardcore through four cities (Hamburg Mon, Berlin Tue, Munich Fri, Zurich Sun), The Amity Affliction through three (Wiesbaden, Cologne, Hamburg) – with Silent Planet opening. The Toasters bring ska punk four times, Ton Steine Scherben bring class war twice.
It gets dark at the end: IAMX headline the Cold Temple Festival at Kulttempel Oberhausen on Saturday, Rotersand play Karlsruhe on Friday, and Absurd Minds take over Kraftwerk Chemnitz at Ghosttrain.
