Scandinavia rolls in, and Saturday belongs to death metal
This week there are 987 shows in 280 cities across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, plus 27 festivals. Saturday alone has more than 300 gigs. Half the Scandinavian scene is on the road at once, and in the underground one death metal fest follows the next.
The big ones
On Wednesday the Zenith in Munich hosts the blackest package of the autumn: Behemoth, Dimmu Borgir and Dark Funeral on one night. A day later Mayhem and Marduk share the LKA Longhorn in Stuttgart, and on Saturday the Essigfabrik in Cologne. On Sunday Marduk headline their own show at the Hellraiser in Leipzig.
Amon Amarth bring their Viking show to the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle in Stuttgart on Friday and to the Festhalle Frankfurt on Saturday, with Soilwork and Orbit Culture in support. The same Schleyer-Halle closes the week on Sunday with Korn, with Architects playing before them. The heaviest night is in the small Bastard Club in Osnabrück on Thursday: Belphegor from Salzburg and Krisiun from Brazil. And because rock is rock: Deep Purple play the Hallenstadion Zurich on Friday, and Europe play the Liederhalle Stuttgart.
The death metal Saturday
The Nordhorn Deathfest at the Alte Weberei has published its running order: ten bands from 13:55, with Benediction from Birmingham headlining at 22:30, preceded by Pentacle, Temple Of Dread and Nightbearer. Benediction and Nightbearer already play the Goldgrube in Kassel on Friday. Also on Friday, the Vienna Deathfest at the Arena Wien is sold out, led by Cytotoxin from Chemnitz and Mastic Scum.
Oberhausen hosts the ninth Odyssey To Blasphemy: Friday at the Helvete, Saturday at the Resonanzwerk. Saturday has Mortuary Drape, Bütcher, Dead Congregation and Heretic, who are playing their final show. Warlust had to cancel, and Deathless Void from Amsterdam step in. At the ORWOhaus in Berlin, Necromania brings Haemorrhage and Hypnos, and the M8 in Mainz hosts the fourth The Blackest Path with Schammasch and Hæresis.
METALEROS Vol. 7 at Gleis 1 in Unterschleißheim is sold out too. Hitten from Murcia headline, with Haunt from California before them, two bands from the new wave of heavy metal. Both also play Dresden on Thursday and the Schwarzer Keiler in Stuttgart on Sunday.
